Most people are horrified at the impact of war on children. We see desperate images of children caught up in wars, day-in-day-out. But what can you do personally?
Inspiration has been working with a small team to develop a powerful and growing movement that has a simple message: “Peace Knot War“. This International Children’s Day, Wed 20th Nov, 2024, people across the globe will tie gauze around their wrists in a symbolic gesture of protest against the devastating impact of war on all children.

A Child’s Right to Peace
Every child deserves a to have parents who are able to protect them, to hear laughter, not explosions, and to know safety instead of terror. Yet today, one in six children lives in an area affected by conflict. The statistics are heart-wrenching:
- Over 8,600 children lost their lives to conflict in 2022
- 15,800 children were killed in Gaza in just six months (UNRWA, 2024)
- 153 million children worldwide are orphaned (UNICEF, 2022)
- Nearly half a billion children (468 million) live in armed conflict zones
- Up to 300,000 child soldiers are fighting in 20 countries
The Power of the “Knot”
Led by veteran humanitarian and children’s advocate Debbie Deegan, Peace Knot War transforms a simple piece of gauze into a powerful symbol of resistance. “When a little boy or girl looks up to see their mother or father, they should never have to hear the terrifying sounds of war,” says Deegan. “Every child should only know love, peace and freedom. Surely this must be our legacy.”
We are grateful to Aslan for giving us permission to use their song Crazy World to develop the campaign video – the messaging in that song is completely aligned with our mission for children “How can I protect you in this Crazy World?”
