The third week of my online marketing internship with Inspiration Marketing ends. Christmas is just around the corner and I’ve been working away at my computer progressing on the knowledge I gained from my first week.

The last two weeks have been occupied with link building and writing content for client websites.

From my time adding content to various online directories I realised that I had previously taken certain luxuries for granted.  Until recently, when I had looked to find information on a company like its address or a list of products online I never thought to myself how I was able to get so much information from a variety of sites. Even when the information wasn’t available on a company’s official website I could count on local directories to give me what I needed. From adding client information to a number of directories some lessons have been learned. The process of finding potential partners for link building and adding the right information to online directories has instilled in me the importance of having this huge online index of company information that is spread across a host of online directories. It may be a repetitive task (oh it is) but you never quite know who is going to land on your company website, buy your product/service or simply type your company name into Google.

I have also spent my time writing content for clients’ websites such as articles, blogs and product descriptions. This has given me a chance to work more with content management systems like WordPress and Joomla. While I am only starting off using these tools I fully understand that getting the most out of your website or blog depends on how effectively and how thoroughly these tools are used. While in my first blog entry I highlighted the importance of having HTML text content like blogs and articles over the last 2 weeks through the use of these CMS tools I have gained more knowledge on how to be searchable and indexable. Not only is it important to have content that is visible to the public but it is also essential that the hidden content is looked after. Having the right browser titles and browser descriptions are important in providing people with search results that best match what they had entered into the search engine.

Therefore, overall I suppose the main thing I can take away from the additional two weeks of my internship is give the people what they want. Access to the right information and having a variety of content to choose from online are important in making your site and your business relevant to the public.

Now… I’m off to tuck into that box of Quality Street. Have a great Christmas!
