Some call it a rise, others call it a renaissance. Whatever it is, content matters. Marketers have recognised the value of content at the same time as the Search Engines. This content confluence means making the most of what goes on your site and understanding just how valuable content is.  

What’s So Great About Content?

Content is what makes people want to come to your site and generally engage with your brand. If you can give people fresh, engaging content they can become your most effective salesperson.

If Jack tells Jill your site is worth visiting, odds are she’ll go online to check it out just as soon as they get that pail of water home. An endorsement from a friend is a thousand times more effective than one from a stranger.

It also helps that Search Engines have realised content is the best way to judge the value of a website. If you have relevant, engaging content that people really like, the search engines will eventually recognise it and suggest your site for relevant searches.

What is Content Anyway?

contentContent is pretty much anything on your site that people can see or read and that makes them think or interact with your website. Content Development is about continuously producing fresh and useful content for your site.

Blogs, videos and photos are the main type of content you might produce for your site but other engaging content like infographics and online resources will also keep people interested in your site.

How do I Content?

It’s not until you sit down and really try to produce engaging content that you see how much time and effort it requires, especially to do it well.

Most people simply don’t have time to produce their own content. They are too busy just running their business. Still, it needs to be done. If you decide to do it yourself take the time and make sure you do it well.

The Keys to Content

Of course it’s easy to tell you to write good content but actually doing it is the tricky part. Like anything it takes practice. But like anything else if you have some guidance that practice has much greater pay off and the fruits of your labour are all the more succulent.

We consider three important keys in creating useful and engaging content: Quality, Clarity and Consistency. Apply these to your content and it won’t be long before you are turning out great content that brings traffic to your site and keeps it coming back for more.

Quality is important for obvious reasons but it is easy to let it slide. You can’t afford to overlook it though if you want to keep up those return visits.

Clarity is the best defense against the fickle and short attention we all have when browsing. It makes engagement easier and minimises bounce.

Consistency forms the foundation of effective online content. Content is a marathon, not a sprint. You need to make sure you can produce content for the long haul.
